Newsletter 28th February 2025

Another month, another newsletter. We thought it might be time for another update on progress, and it’s all good news. The most important news being that the presses are rolling (if presses still roll) on the printed version!

We prepared print files and sent them to Standart a few weeks ago. There was a bit of back and forth on the files, as we adjusted bleeds, rasters, colours, print profiles and ink totals on the files to get them optimal for printing (and slightly adjusted the logos on the cloth version to get them optimal of the gold foil process) and then when that was done, Standart sent us digital proofs.

It was then we noticed that while the cloth version was perfect, the spine on the standard version was 1.5mm out of true. So we went back to the original artwork to make that adjustment, then replaced the art in the indesign file and exported that into the print-ready PDF (remembering everything we had learned about bleeds, print profiles, ink totals etc) and uploaded that new version to Standart. They sent us another digital proof and that’s perfect so we said they could start printing.

And of course at the same time we were doing the same thing with the GM's screen so that’s printing too. In fact it might have gone to print first, because the paper for the book was only being delivered this week.

Meanwhile, our prototype dice finally arrived and they feel great and roll really well. We need to get them tested to comply with the new GPSR (EU safety) regulations to sending stuff to backers in Europe so Matthew is currently selecting a laboratory to do that. In the meantime the rest of the dice are in production and should be with us by the end of the month.

At the same time as all this production, we have also been working on the Pledge Manager. It’s quite a complex process working out how much packages of different rewards and add-ons will cost to mail to every country, and what the import duties will be, but we think we almost have it (bar one more calculation which Dave is getting his head around right now). Fingers crossed no-one impulsively adds a 25% tariff on imports before we ship! Kickstarter backers will be notified when the pledgemanager goes live. But if you missed the kickstarter and would like to use the pledge manager to pre-order you can sign here https://effekt.pledgemanager.com/projects/tales-of-the-old-west/participate/ for notification when we go live.

In conclusion, everything is on schedule!

Thee image we are adapting for the dice trays As people (in the Northern Hemisphere) face the longest night of the year, and hunker down for midwinter and the festivals that follow, it’s time to tell you about our progress. Some, or most of you will already have received the update we sent via Kickstarter earlier so most of this will be old news to you. But subscribers to our mailing list are growing, so I assume at least some of you are not Kickstarter backers. But here is a new bit of news...

Our grift archetype illustrated

Howdy there pardners! It’s been nearly a month since we last updated you on progress, so here goes! We have had a few wrinkles to iron out over the last few weeks, not least the delay with the sensitivity readers and our graphics design expert taking a month off on holiday! The upshot is that we are now unlikely to hit our ambitious target of getting the PDF in the right place and out to you before christmas, as we had hoped. As you know, this is our first kickstarter and we fell into the...

A sheriff and a native lighthorseman

We thought it was time for an update on progress. An exciting thing happened at the beginning of the week - our bank account was credited with the funds from Kickstarter, minus their cut of course, and processing fees. In the spirit of openness, you might like to know how that breaks down. A Sheriff and a Lighthorseman are just two of the possibilities that the "Lawman" archetype presents You will remember that you pledged a total of £34,632.00. But sadly for nine backers, their credit card...
