NEWSLETTER: Friday 20th December

As people (in the Northern Hemisphere) face the longest night of the year, and hunker down for midwinter and the festivals that follow, it’s time to tell you about our progress. Some, or most of you will already have received the update we sent via Kickstarter earlier so most of this will be old news to you. But subscribers to our mailing list are growing, so I assume at least some of you are not Kickstarter backers.

But here is a new bit of news for EVERYONE! The popular TTRPG website, ENworld, has included Tales of the Old West on its annual Most Anticipated Game poll. We are up against some stiff completion this year, with the Discworld RPG among those people can vote for, but you can vote for three games. Please sign up to ENworld and vote for us if you can (and two other games of your choice of course!

We got all the editing done, and the resulting changes made, last month. All the art is finished too. We are now deep into the layout phase. Stefan, our layout guy, is doing great work, but has shown us that we have underestimated the time required for layout. He is about 150 pages in, and what we thought might be 200 or 220 pages is looking more like 280! Not only that, we have a lot of tables in there, what with some of the stretch goals like life path generation. And tables take more time to get right. That said, we still hope to get all the layout work done so we can still deliver the PDFs in January, with 280 pages instead of our anticipated 200! Bargain! But whatever happens we will keep you informed as we make progress.

Meanwhile, other elements are also working towards completion. We have just had a photo of the prototype for our trouble dice, and the actual prototypes should be in our hands shortly ready for approval so make the rest.

We have also decided on the illustration we are going to use for the dice trays, and are getting the manufacture of those underway. And we are working on the text for the PDF supplements: the three Campfire Tales and the "Lone Rider" solo rules. When we have a better handle on getting the layout print-ready and off to Standart we will also launch the pledge manager. Have a happy Christmas, or festival of your choice, and look forward to more from us in the New Year.

Our prototype dice have finally arrived Another month, another newsletter. We thought it might be time for another update on progress, and it’s all good news. The most important news being that the presses are rolling (if presses still roll) on the printed version! We prepared print files and sent them to Standart a few weeks ago. There was a bit of back and forth on the files, as we adjusted bleeds, rasters, colours, print profiles and ink totals on the files to get them optimal for printing...

Our grift archetype illustrated

Howdy there pardners! It’s been nearly a month since we last updated you on progress, so here goes! We have had a few wrinkles to iron out over the last few weeks, not least the delay with the sensitivity readers and our graphics design expert taking a month off on holiday! The upshot is that we are now unlikely to hit our ambitious target of getting the PDF in the right place and out to you before christmas, as we had hoped. As you know, this is our first kickstarter and we fell into the...

A sheriff and a native lighthorseman

We thought it was time for an update on progress. An exciting thing happened at the beginning of the week - our bank account was credited with the funds from Kickstarter, minus their cut of course, and processing fees. In the spirit of openness, you might like to know how that breaks down. A Sheriff and a Lighthorseman are just two of the possibilities that the "Lawman" archetype presents You will remember that you pledged a total of £34,632.00. But sadly for nine backers, their credit card...
